“Joseph Joffo, born in 1931 in Paris XVIII, is mainly known for having recounted his Jewish childhood during the German occupation in his novel “A bag of marbles” published in 1973.
Son of hairdressers, he spent his childhood in the 17th arrondissement. Under the German occupation, his family of Jewish origin is persecuted. He passes with his brother in free zone. He returned to Paris at the end of the war and found the rest of his family, except his father who was deported.
He stops his studies at the age of 14, at the school certificate and resumes with his brothers the family show. He began writing at the age of 26, following a skiing accident that immobilized him. His novels have, according to some sources, been reworked by literary Negroes such as Patrick Cauvin. He currently resides in Paris where he has several hair salons.
Author of the best-seller A Bag of Marbles (1973), Joseph Joffo has published since many books, including Anna and his orchestra (prize RTL-General public 1975), Agates and caps, A child too curious 1998. To discover our file on cinematographic adaptations, from writing to image, click here!”
