“Jean-Claude Mourlevat was born in Ambert, Auvergne, in 1952, from farming parents. He is the fifth child of six. He studied in Strasbourg, Toulouse, Bonn and Paris and briefly worked as a German teacher before becoming a theater actor and director. From 1997, he devoted himself to writing, first with tales, then a first novel, La Balafre. Since then, the books have followed each other with happiness, acclaimed by readers, critics and literary prizes: The Winter Combat, The Dead King’s Grief, Terrienne. Jean-Claude Mourlevat lives near Saint-Étienne, with his wife and their two children.”
